Bourdin | SS19

The SS19 collection drew inspiration from some of the most iconic images by French artist and photographer Guy Bourdin, famed for his suggestive narratives and surreal aesthetics. Rich and vibrant, the SS19 'Bourdin' collection showcased Pia's ability to create truly unique embroideries and her keen eye for colour.

MoodBoard

A former protégé May Ray, Bourdin's innovative and often provocative work changed the face of fashion photography. Working with esteemed publications such as French Vogue and Harper's Bazaar, Bourdin created surreal worlds that explored the realms between the absurd and sublime, where the products being advertised were often secondary to the visual narrative of the image.

Pia was inspired by Bourdin's use of vibrant reds contrasted against steely blues and his playful beauty photography for French Vogue that features matching rouge lips and manicured fingers.

The Ranges

Mira 'Wonder'

The Mira ranged combined playful Studio Pia shapes with sheer net tulle, silk strapping and cheeky hand embroidery to evoke Bourdin's risqué aesthetic.

Diara 'Gift'

Referencing the bold red lips and nails found in Bourdin's iconic beauty photography, Diara's vibrant Scarlet peace silk and statement embroidery made for a flirty everyday set.

Joia 'Joy'

The icy blue shade used for Joia has gone on to become a customer favourite. Paired with graphic criss-crossing embroidery and lightweight styles, Joia made for an otherworldly range.

Raina 'Queen'

Featuring graphic check embroidery that reveals a trim of manicured hands and rouge lips upon closer inspection, the Raina range pays homage to Bourdin's surreal imagery.

Clea 'Glory'

Clea was revived in Scarlet red, first created for the SS19 collection before going on to become one of our signature silk shades. Red hot, Clea in Scarlet was one of most popular colour ways.

Zuza 'Graceful'

Sweet and ethereal, Zuza's classic shapes and golden embroidery complemented our Soraya Ivory range and was perfect addition to a bridal trousseau.
